🤖 AI MAINTENANCE SECTION — FOR AI AGENTS ONLY (hidden from readers)
     ----------------------------------------------------------------
This vault is auto-indexed by AI. Whenever a new topic folder is
added to D/0/, repeat this exact runbook, end to end:

STEP 0 — PREP THE NEW FOLDER (D/0/<new_folder>/):
         - Confirm it contains readme.md (the essay) and index.html
(the interactive page). Numbered variants (0.html, 1.html,
…) only if they actually exist.
         - FAVICON: if the folder's index.html has no favicon, add a
"link rel=icon" line right after its title tag. Copy the
favicon line from D/0/index.html's head and restyle it to
match the page's own palette (one emoji or one colored char).

STEP 1 — SCAN: List every subfolder of D/0/ (ignore hidden/dot
folders). Inside each subfolder, list every *.html and *.md
file. Never treat this root readme.md / index.html as a topic.

STEP 2 — EXTRACT, per subfolder:
         - DISPLAY NAME: Title-case the folder name, e.g.
           "knowing_vs_accepting" → "Knowing vs. Accepting",
           "fear_n_courage" → "Fear & Courage".
         - SUMMARY: the first paragraph of that folder's readme.md.
         - THEME BADGE: a 2-4 word label for the card header, e.g.
"Epistemology & Somatics", "Rhetoric & Neurobiology".
         - FILES: classify each file in the folder:
             • readme.md → label "The Full Report", desc
"long-form essay with N cited sources"
             • index.html → label "Interactive Infographic", desc from
                             its <title> + interactive features
             • N.html → label "Interactive Variant N", desc from
                             its <title> + features

STEP 3 — REBUILD the "Vault Contents" section of THIS file:
one "### 📁 [DisplayName](./folder/)" heading per folder with
its summary, plus a bullet per file:
             - 📝 [The Full Report](./folder/readme.md) — desc. (`readme.md`)
Use relative links and put the raw filename in parentheses.

STEP 4 — Mirror the same changes in D/0/index.html: replace the
topic cards between its TOPIC CARD markers, and update the
"Topic Earned" / "Files Indexed" hero counters.

STEP 5 — UPDATE THE PARENT REPO readme.md
         (krishnakanthb13.github.io/readme.md) in BOTH places:
         - Folder-structure tree, section "1. Folder Structure and
Information", under the "0: Ground Zero" bullet: add one
           tab-indented line per topic, e.g.
               - [Fear & Courage](https://krishnakanthb13.github.io/D/0/fear_n_courage/) — <short subtitle>
         - "Ground Zero — Knowledge Vault (D/0)" section: add one
3-line block per topic (topic line, then tab-indented
"Interactive Infographic" and "The Full Report" bullets),
           all with absolute URLs.

STEP 6 — VERIFY before finishing: every link resolves to a real
file, no folder is missing, counters match the real file count,
and no links point to deleted files.

# D/0 — Knowledge Vault

## Why This Exists

This directory is a living, growing knowledge vault. As knowledge is earned—through research, reflection, and deep study—it gets dropped in here as self-contained topic folders. Each folder is a complete "module" on a single subject, pairing a long-form written report with interactive HTML visualizations so the material can be both read and explored.

The goal is simple: **knowing is cheap, structure is everything.** A fact picked up from a sentence decays; a curated, navigable vault compounds.

## How It's Organized

- Each **subfolder** = one topic, earned and curated.
- `readme.md` — the long-form essay / research report (the written knowledge).
- `index.html` — the primary interactive visualization of that topic.
- `0.html`, `1.html`, ... — alternate or companion interactive variants (light themes, simulators, quizzes, etc.), when present.

## Vault Contents

### 📁 [Aimlessness & Goals](./aimlessness_n_goals/)
**The Psychology of Aimlessness and Goal-Directed Behavior** — why the absence of a goal is not calm but a metabolically expensive state of hyper-uncertainty. Frames aimlessness as psychological entropy—a combinatorial explosion of affordances—and traces the resulting anxiety through Gray's Behavioral Inhibition System, Panksepp's SEEKING system and Schultz's reward prediction error, Locke & Latham's goal-setting theory and Morisano/Schippers' Future Authoring trials, Fromm's *Escape from Freedom*, Frankl's logotherapy and Self-Determination Theory, before weighing the "Goals Gone Wild" critique and clinical applications in vocational guidance and psychiatric rehabilitation.

- 📝 [The Full Report](./aimlessness_n_goals/readme.md) — the long-form essay with 113 cited sources. (`readme.md`)
- 🧭 [Interactive Infographic](./aimlessness_n_goals/index.html) — the complete warm sand & intellectual-slate interactive page: six-tab psychology portal (Core Thesis, Neurobiology & Entropy, Positive Emotion & SEEKING, Future Authoring, Existential & SDT, Risks & Clinical) with a three-trajectory option-set simulator, Goal Clarity vs. Psychological Entropy model, MID-task fMRI chart, multi-domain goal-architecture studio, motivation-spectrum explorer, and "Goals Gone Wild" risk matrix. (`index.html`)

---

### 📁 [Bubble & Idea](./bubble_n_idea/)
**The Architecture of the Spiral** — why systemic collapse rarely stems from a flawed premise: a bubble is a good idea that outgrows its own evidence. Maps the army ant "death spiral" (Beebe's 1,200-ft Guyanese mill, 1921) onto financial bubbles through information cascades and Minsky's Financial Instability Hypothesis, then extends the same closed-loop pathology to Ant Colony Optimization, recommender echo chambers, and AI model collapse.

- 📝 [The Full Report](./bubble_n_idea/readme.md) — the long-form essay with 41 cited sources. (`readme.md`)
- 🐜 [Interactive Infographic](./bubble_n_idea/index.html) — the complete warm sand & terracotta interactive page: interactive 5-phase spiral stepper with signal-vs-utility trajectory chart, Deneubourg bifurcation model, sequential information-cascade simulator, asymmetric pheromone-decay chart, clickable cross-domain comparison matrix, 5-criteria "outgrown evidence" diagnostic wizard, and a friction-control lab. (`index.html`)

---

### 📁 [Confidence & Competence](./confidence_n_competence/)
**The Metacognitive Paradox** — why the least skilled are so often the most certain, and why the viral "Mount Stupid" curve is internet folklore rather than psychometric data. Weighs Kruger & Dunning's 1999 dual-burden hypothesis against the statistical backlash (autocorrelation, regression to the mean, task-difficulty reversal, homoscedasticity), then traces the effect across WEIRD vs. East Asian self-enhancement and its cognitive mirror, Impostor Syndrome.

- 📝 [The Full Report](./confidence_n_competence/readme.md) — the long-form essay with 60 cited sources. (`readme.md`)
- 🎯 [Interactive Infographic](./confidence_n_competence/index.html) — the complete warm-neutral, academic-indigo interactive page: Meme-vs-1999 curve toggle, 1999 quartile bar chart with study selector, random-noise autocorrelation simulator, Dunning-Kruger vs. Impostor metacognitive spectrum slider, cultural self-enhancement panel, domain-hazard tabs (medicine, aviation, generative AI), and a syllogism calibration test. (`index.html`)

---

### 📁 [Counter-Dependency Paradox](./counter_dependency_paradox/)
**The Architecture of the Isolated Self** — why extreme self-reliance is often a rigid, compulsive defense mechanism rather than resilience: the individuals who appear to require absolutely no one are consistently the ones who harbor the most acute terror of interpersonal connection. Synthesizes the Weinhold developmental model, attachment theory (Bowlby, Ainsworth), Polyvagal Theory (Porges), Internal Family Systems (Schwartz), Schema Therapy (Young), and Feeney's empirical dependency paradox.

- 📝 [The Full Report](./counter_dependency_paradox/readme.md) — the long-form essay with 63 cited sources. (`readme.md`)
- 🛡️ [Interactive Infographic](./counter_dependency_paradox/index.html) — the complete indigo-themed interactive page: Weinhold 4-stage developmental explorer, pursuer-distancer loop simulator, codependency vs. counter-dependency and NPD differential matrices, "upper" addictions showcase, polyvagal nervous-system explorer, alexithymia somatic map, Feeney dependency-paradox chart, and a 6-question self-reflection screener. (`index.html`)

---

### 📁 [Dopamine vs. Discipline](./dopamine_vs_discipline/)
**The Neurobiology of Goal Pursuit** — why dopamine is the engine and discipline is the steering: motivation is incentive salience, not pleasure, and self-control is an economic allocation of cognitive effort rather than a finite tank of willpower. Synthesizes Berridge's wanting/liking dissociation, Schultz's reward prediction error, the Expected Value of Control model, COMT Val158Met genetics, hyperbolic discounting, the ventral-to-dorsal habit shift, and the stress, sleep, and pleasure-pain disruptors that decouple the two systems.

- 📝 [The Full Report](./dopamine_vs_discipline/readme.md) — the long-form essay with 90 cited sources. (`readme.md`)
- ⚡ [Interactive Infographic](./dopamine_vs_discipline/index.html) — the complete warm scientific-neutral interactive page: six-section portal with a reward-prediction-error simulator and cue-shift chart, Expected Value of Control calculator, COMT genotype switcher, hyperbolic-vs-exponential discounting chart, basal-ganglia direct/indirect pathway explorer, ventral-to-dorsal habit timeline, stress/sleep disruptor panels, and a 4-question goal-alignment diagnostic. (`index.html`)

---

### 📁 [Effort Paradox](./effort_paradox/)
**The Rationalist Fallacy in Human Bonding** — why the human brain devalues what comes free while obsessing over what costs effort. Synthesizes cognitive dissonance and the severity-of-initiation paradigm (Aronson & Mills 1959), the Ben Franklin effect (Jecker & Landy 1969), the Gain-Loss theory of attraction (Aronson & Linder 1965), Walster's selectively-hard-to-get findings, the IKEA effect, and Inzlicht's neurocomputational model of effort valuation—then maps the pathology of the hyper-giver who robs a partner of the cognitive friction required to synthesize attachment.

- 📝 [The Full Report](./effort_paradox/readme.md) — the long-form essay with 27 cited sources. (`readme.md`)
- ⛰️ [Interactive Infographic](./effort_paradox/index.html) — the complete warm-ivory, academic-blue interactive page: relational investment simulator (cognitive dissonance, perceived value, entitlement risk), four classic-study charts (Aronson & Mills 1959, Jecker & Landy 1969, Aronson & Linder 1965, Walster et al. 1973), a 5-question over-functioning audit, and a three-condition boundary-conditions framework. (`index.html`)

---

### 📁 [Empathy & Discernment](./empathy_n_discernment/)
**Understanding vs. Judging** — a neurobiological and clinical framework exploring the tension between empathy and discernment. Synthesizes the Opposing Domains Hypothesis (DMN/TPN reciprocal inhibition), DBT Wise Mind, Schema Therapy modes, and Pennebaker's expressive writing research to navigate the balance between understanding and protective judgment.

- 📝 [The Full Report](./empathy_n_discernment/readme.md) — the long-form essay with 56 cited sources. (`readme.md`)

(`index.html`)

---

### 📁 [Fear & Courage](./fear_n_courage/)
**The Architecture of Courage** — a cognitive, rhetorical, and clinical analysis of fear, acceptance, and the punctuation of emotion: how a single comma becomes "a pause and a permission," how affect labeling inhibits the amygdala, and how ACT and DBT dismantle experiential avoidance. Synthesizes literary phenomenology, Adorno's philosophy of punctuation, affective neuroscience (Damasio, Lieberman), and third-wave cognitive-behavioral paradigms.

- 📝 [The Full Report](./fear_n_courage/readme.md) — the long-form essay with 60 cited sources. (`readme.md`)
- ☀️ [Interactive Infographic](./fear_n_courage/index.html) — the complete light-themed interactive page: comma cadence lab, archetype evolution radar, Adorno punctuation instrument, fMRI affect-labeling simulator, ACT hexaflex grid, DBT radical-acceptance calculator, and a practical courage toolkit. (`index.html`)

---

### 📁 [Growth & Comparison Joy](./growth_comparison_joy/)
**The Architecture of Evaluation** — why comparison itself isn't the thief of joy—the ruler is. This analysis explores Social Comparison Theory, Temporal Self-Appraisal Theory, Achievement Goal Frameworks, and Self-Determination Theory, showing how to shift from norm-referenced verdicts to ipsative and criterion-referenced growth metrics for sustainable motivation.

- 📝 [The Full Report](./growth_comparison_joy/readme.md) — long-form essay with 96 cited sources. (`readme.md`)
- 📐 [Interactive Infographic](./growth_comparison_joy/index.html) — interactive SPA: etymology chart, developmental shift visualization, Selective Accessibility Model simulator, paradigm switcher (Norm/Criterion/Ipsative), 2x2 achievement goal matrix with radar chart, and CBT 5-step reframing engine with practical tools. (`index.html`)

---

### 📁 [Happy or Content](./happy_or_content/)
**The Psychology of Enough** — why the relentless cultural pursuit of happiness backfires, and why contentment—the unconditional, low-arousal sense of wholeness—offers a more sustainable model for human flourishing. Synthesizes affective science (the paradoxical effects of valuing happiness), Berridge's wanting/liking affective neuroscience, Gilbert's Compassion-Focused Therapy three-system model, and Global Wellbeing Initiative / World Happiness Report data.

- 📝 [The Full Report](./happy_or_content/readme.md) — the long-form essay with 45 cited sources. (`readme.md`)

(`index.html`)

---

### 📁 [Identity Habit Formation](./identity_habit_formation/)
**The Architecture of Self-Transformation** — why behavior decoupled from identity is processed by the brain as a temporary deviation rather than an intrinsic trait, and why grafting a disciplined future self's habits onto an undisciplined present self guarantees relapse. Reverse-engineers the full change sequence: collapsing the neural distance to the future self (vmPFC, age-progression, vivid visualization), Bem's self-perception theory and Oyserman's identity-based motivation turning behavior into belief, offloading control from the fragile prefrontal cortex to the basal-ganglia habit loop, pre-loading If-Then implementation intentions and choice architecture, and reframing lapses as statistical outliers rather than identity regressions.

- 📝 [The Full Report](./identity_habit_formation/readme.md) — the long-form essay with 47 cited sources. (`readme.md`)
- 🔁 [Interactive Infographic](./identity_habit_formation/index.html) — the complete warm-neutral, teal-themed interactive page: outcome-vs-identity paradigm comparison, fMRI temporal-discounting chart, identity-evidence vote accumulator, Oyserman Identity-Based Motivation friction-framing panel, Lally 66-day automaticity curve, If-Then protocol builder, clickable 100-day outlier matrix, and a personalized blueprint workbench. (`index.html`)

---

### 📁 [Infidelity & Betrayal](./infidelity_n_betrayal/)
**The Epistemology of Deception** — why cheating operates as a psychological mechanism to defer the guaranteed costs of a breakup rather than an act of passion. Grounded in Prospect Theory and loss aversion, the affair preserves the comfort, stability, and emotional infrastructure of the primary relationship while the transgressor avoids ever having to inhabit the role of "the villain"—transferring the entire psychological toll onto the betrayed partner. Synthesizes the calculus of avoidance (the "try before buying" safety net), Bandura's eight mechanisms of moral disengagement, attachment avoidance and the Dark Triad, dopamine-driven override of prefrontal control, Freyd's betrayal trauma and Janoff-Bulman's shattered assumptions, the onset of Post-Infidelity Stress Disorder (PISD), and the trauma-integration modalities (EMDR, Somatic Experiencing, TF-CBT, EFT) plus the radical-transparency requirements for true repair.

- 📝 [The Full Report](./infidelity_n_betrayal/readme.md) — the long-form essay with 44 cited sources. (`readme.md`)

(`index.html`)

---

### 📁 [Knowing vs. Accepting](./knowing_vs_accepting/)
**The Epistemology and Somatics of Surrender** — why intellectual "knowing" routinely fails to change behavior, and why acceptance is the costly, embodied act of translating a fact into the nervous system. Synthesizes cognitive psychology (hot-cold empathy gap, cognitive dissonance, knowing-doing gap), somatic psychotherapy (EFT, Gendlin's Focusing, DBT Radical Acceptance), and contemplative epistemologies (Advaita Vedanta's *Paroksha → Aparoksha*, Buddhism's three stages of wisdom).

(`index.html`)

---

### 📁 [Neuroplasticity & Procrastination](./neuroplasticity_n_procrastination/)
**The Neuroscience of Action and Avoidance** — deconstructs the high-stakes productivity rhetoric ("skip one day and you wire your brain for avoidance," "only a karmic reckoning of willpower works") against empirical neuroscience: habit formation is asymptotic (median 66 days, Lally 2010), procrastination is an amygdala-driven emotional-regulation failure rather than a character flaw, and sleep is a mechanical prerequisite for prefrontal control. Synthesizes experience-dependent neuroplasticity, Schlüter et al.'s 2018 amygdala/dACC imaging, Schultz's reward prediction error, Loewenstein's hot-cold empathy gap, and Inzlicht's process model of self-control.

(`index.html`)

---

### 📁 [Receiving Paradox](./receiving_paradox/)
**The Caregiver's Dilemma** — why those who dedicate their lives to caring for others experience profound distress, guilt, and counter-dependent resistance when care is reciprocated—a pattern spanning personal intimacy and professional leadership, driving chronic over-functioning, micromanagement, and systemic burnout. Synthesizes attachment theory (Bowlby), Bowen family systems theory, and Schema Therapy (Young).

- 📝 [The Full Report](./receiving_paradox/readme.md) — the long-form essay with 69 cited sources. (`readme.md`)
- 🤲 [Interactive Infographic](./receiving_paradox/index.html) — the complete warm-themed interactive page: theoretical triad explorer (Attachment, Bowen Systems, Schema Therapy), five-stage reciprocity-crisis sequence tracker, relational focus radar chart, burnout-vs-autonomy trajectory chart, schema mode switcher, and a therapeutic pathways blueprint. (`index.html`)

---

### 📁 [Nice Ego vs. Good Character](./nice_ego_vs_good_character/)
**The Psychology of Moral Motivation** — why the same person can press a stranger's elevator button with a warm smile and then snap at their partner minutes later. Separates ego-driven niceness (transactional, externally validated, prone to moral licensing) from character-driven goodness (internalized identity, firm boundaries, praise-independent), synthesizing moral licensing and Tirole's cheap signaling, communal narcissism, Aquino & Reed's moral identity quadrants, HEXACO Honesty-Humility, the Jungian persona and shadow, Batson's empathy-altruism hypothesis, neurobiology (ventral striatum vs. TPJ/insula), and Kantian and Aristotelian ethics.

- 📝 [The Full Report](./nice_ego_vs_good_character/readme.md) — the long-form essay with 104 cited sources. (`readme.md`)

(`index.html`)

---

### 📁 [Respond vs. React](./respond_vs_react/)
**The Interstitial Pause** — why volitional maturity is not the eradication of emotion but the cultivation of a temporal and epistemic gap between raw affect and motor output. Synthesizes dual-process neurobiology (amygdala/ventral striatum vs. ACC/dlPFC/vlPFC), Gross's emotion-regulation model, Stoic *synkatathesis*, Buddhist *sati*, Rollo May's existential pause, Lieberman's affect-labeling findings, the 90-second neurochemical window, physiological-sigh breathwork, and the ACT Choice Point—then treats the storm-versus-compass artwork as a cognitive prime for real-world self-regulation.

- 📝 [The Full Report](./respond_vs_react/readme.md) — the long-form essay with 54 cited sources. (`readme.md`)
- 🧭 [Interactive Infographic](./respond_vs_react/index.html) — the complete warm-sand & slate interactive page: five-module tabbed portal with a dual-process radar/bar chart, Stoic–Buddhist–existential pause explorer, semiotic iconography cards, 90-second physiological-sigh timer, affect-labeling neural calculator, ACT Choice Point matrix, and a three-step volitional choice simulator. (`index.html`)

---

### 📁 [Sisyphus](./sisyphus/)
**The Modern Paradigm of Absurdity** — why the king who cheated death twice became the West's defining archetype of pointless labor. Traces the figure of Sisyphus across three domains: his metis-fueled kingship of Ephyra and the violation of *xenia*, the contrapasso logic of his Tartarus sentence; Albert Camus's 1942 reinterpretation of the myth as the ultimate absurd hero ("one must imagine Sisyphus happy"); and Dan Ariely's behavioral-economics quantification of meaningless labor, which measures the "Sisyphus Condition" as a 32% productivity collapse and a doubled reservation wage.

- 📝 [The Full Report](./sisyphus/readme.md) — the long-form essay with 51 cited sources. (`readme.md`)
- 🏔️ [Interactive Infographic](./sisyphus/index.html) — the complete warm terracotta & deep-slate interactive page: five-tab SPA (Overview, Mythology, Philosophy, Economics, Synthesis) with a five-step transgression stepper, clickable mythological character matrix, contrapasso comparative table, Camus-vs-Sartre framework, three-responses decision explorer, Hour of Consciousness ascent/descent toggle, Chart.js Bionicle & reservation-wage charts, an adjustable workplace motivation simulator, and a Sisyphean-alignment quiz. (`index.html`)

---

### 📁 [Sunk Cost Fallacy](./sunk_cost_fallacy/)
**The Psychology and Economics of Sunk Costs** — why unrecoverable past investments should have zero bearing on future decisions, and why the mind instead treats them as an ongoing obligation. Synthesizes Thaler's mental accounting and Kahneman–Tversky loss aversion with Arkes & Blumer's waste aversion, Staw's escalation of commitment, Charnov's Marginal Value Theorem and Sweis et al.'s cross-species wait-phase evidence, Flyvbjerg's Iron Law of megaprojects, aviation plan-continuation bias, the disposition effect, demographic variance, and the quitting frameworks of Duke, Teller, Grove, and real-options theory.

(`index.html`)

---

### 📁 [Time & Employment Dynamics](./time_n_employment_dynamics/)
**The Market for Time** — why unequal valuation is the engine of employment, and why the same differential decides who sells labor directly to primary capital and who is relegated to precarious, secondhand subcontracting. Synthesizes Becker's 1965 household production model and Ricardo's comparative advantage with DMP search frictions, Shapiro-Stiglitz efficiency wages, dual labor market theory, Weil's fissured workplace, and Dube et al.'s measurement of monopsony power on Amazon Mechanical Turk.

- 📝 [The Full Report](./time_n_employment_dynamics/readme.md) — the long-form essay with 68 cited sources. (`readme.md`)
